Video of the Week #2: It's Showtime!

Well it's wednesday again and that means it is time for another video!

Today instead of going with another comedy video, I decided to go another direction. I am a huge MMA fan, and if anyone else is, you would most likely know that the UFC has absolved the WEC effective January 1, 2011. With that said, the WEC had it's last event a few weeks ago, with two title fights.

To say the least, the man I was rooting for lost his title and it was due to this kick in the fifth round, as much as it sucks that I won't see Ben Henderson fighting for the UFC lightweight title in the immediate future after this loss I have to admit this was the greatest kick I have ever seen. (not in terms of how devastating though)

Anyways, here it is, the showtime kick! Named after Anthony "Showtime" Pettis.

Song of the Week #5: The Hill

It's technically next week, meaning I missed a week, but it's 3 in the morning so close enough, I just had to post this song, really struck a chord with me. Must be the piano,

Some of the lyrics in the video are a bit off but oh well, just listen to the song!

Anyways it's - The Hill by Marketa Irglova

Video of the Week #1: Dave Allen

The video of the week has been delayed a few weeks due to schooling, but now that it is over this is a perfect time to introduce it, and the first video is that of none other than Dave Allen, one of the greatest comedians of all time. A true legend.

The inaugural video is a short clip showcasing a part of Dave Allen's act; what happens when men turn 18. Truly hilarious. Enjoy.

December 21 Lunar Eclipse

Anybody catch the Lunar Eclipse yesterday? I stayed up until three in the morning watching it.

Here are some photos of the partial lunar eclipse,

And a bad quality photo, I just wanted to upload it because of the light beside the almost complete lunar eclipse. I'm pretty sure it is just the part of the moon that was uncovered, same shape as the piece on the moon but I am not sure how that happened when I took the picture, weird illusion. Thought I'd share.

And that is all folks. The next time a Lunar Eclipse will appear on the Winter Solstice is in 2092, the last time before yesterday was 372 years ago. Most of  us probably will not be alive to see the next one on the winter solstice (I will be over 100 if I am still kicking!) so if you did see the eclipse, consider yourself lucky to have been able to witness such an event.

Also what makes it more rare, is the height of the moon in the sky for the eclipse, I heard that the last time the a Lunar Eclipse happened when the moon was so high in the sky was somewhere around 450 A.D! So you should consider yourself very lucky if you managed to see it.

Song of the Week #4: The Rodeo Song

*As I said in the post directly below this one, posted about 20 or so minutes ago, here is the song of the week.

**I guess I should warn you that there is some profanity in the song.

This is a short little number I would like to share with you, it's called The Rodeo Song by Gary Lee and The Showdown, the video is from youtube as you can tell, uploaded by elffanatic2000. Anyways, without further adieu, the fourth song of the week!

I just had to do it, it's hilarious!

The Most Wonderful Time of The Year! (Sort Of)

I can not believe it is already Saturday December 18, 2010

I made it through three of my final exams. Two are left. On monday and tuesday I will be writing the last of them. So that means there will almost certainly be no blog update next monday either.

About this update though, I'll admit the truth. That truth is that my exams are NOT 100% to blame for not updating the blog. There are two other reasons.

First, my brother bought a new puppy, under the pretences that he would take care of him. Funny how that has not happened. I have been the primary caregiver for this little fiend for the past week or two. Now here is a picture of the monster (A miniature Daschund)
It's like looking face-to-face with the devil.

Second, I bought an acoustic guitar. I have never played a guitar before until the point I bought that one, but have always wanted to learn, so now in the little spare time that I have had over this past week, I have begun to learn to play the guitar.

I guess that is all. The music of the week post was not uploaded yesterday, so I will try to find a worthy song and upload it now. So, to recap, study study study this weekend, then monday and tuesday I write the last of my finals, that gives me a couple of days before my holidays begin so I will be able to update the blog then! I still have the memory post draft written, but since i've now missed it or will be missing it twice, I think that I will be forced to upload two posts to catch up. We will see. Anyways, good luck to anyone still studying and will be writing finals next week and Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all.

Thanks, Dillon Wheeler

Blog update for this week

Well, unless I can take no more and need a break (which is likely), I will not be updating the blog today, my English final is tomorrow! I have a ton of work to do, starting tomorrow, I have five exams over the course of one week. So things are about to get rough. I will see what I can do though.

Song of the Week #3: Faunts - Meno Mony Falls

By:
Matt Gallagher

Meno Mony Falls is one of my favourite mood baring tracks. It always creates a sense of built up emotion. I love the way it starts simplistically and slowly builds into pure emotion. I can't quite pinpoint the very reason this track moves me the way it does though. It could be the out of place yet welcoming drum sequencer that seems too fast for the general tones of the track. Or the single note guitar slides that at times break into multiples but you never can quite tell. I think atmospheric ambiguity is a good way to describe the track, given it cant quite be described as housing one emotion or nuance, but many. It feels like a backing track to the rawest of emotions; a backdrop of atmospheric tones.

I hope you like it as much as i do:

The Death of the Working Class Hero

By:
Matt Gallagher

Today marks the anniversary of a tragic departure of a hero. On December 8th 1980, the world lost a visionary, a dreamer, a husband, a father, and a lover. A man who spread powerful and lasting beliefs through art and music. He will remain in our hearts for years to come.

Here's to you John...

Blog Post of the Week #2: Dark Flow

By:
Dillon Wheeler

NGC 4414, a typical spiral galaxy in the constellation Coma Berenices, is about 55,000 light-years in diameter and approximately 60 million light- years away from Earth.
Spiral Galaxy

Think about that, sixty MILLION light-years! Thats about the time since the dinosaurs went extinct. Jesus Christ!

Various Dinosaurs
Evolution of Man
If you were in a theoretical ship that is capable of travelling at the speed of light, you would have to have left Earth at a time when dinosaurs were roaming the Earth, and you would only now be arriving at the outer edges of this galaxy. Thats not even to the other side of it, that would take another 55,000 years. How vast is the universe, that just some "typical" galaxy is that far away, and that is not even a big distance in terms of the universe. Wow, try to honestly, clearly, wrap you head around that. Wow. It truly is amazing, and now I have just learned about Dark Flow. Which, scientists believe, is an external force pulling on the UNIVERSE! Sucking entire galaxies into another realm that we can not see. How (expletive) is that. Wow, it is so complex, that we can't even imagine how complex it is.

Now more on Dark Flow, Wiki says it is a term that describes a particularly odd velocity of galaxy cluster. As in, whole galaxies are moving towards something, at relative speeds.

Credit: NASA/Goddard/A. Kashlinsky, et al.
Scientists are now suggesting that whole galaxies are being pulled towards something, but not just being pulled somewhere, but into a universe invisible to us. Think about that. They are suggesting that there is not just a single universe, but a multiverse, if you will.

One we can not see.

They say the gravity from this other universe is pulling our "resources" towards it. Why? Well as I just said, for resources.

There was a controversial statement, stating that it is not something natural, that something uniform is causing this. As in, some intelligent beings are pulling these things into their realm.

Sentient beings, far more advanced than we can dream. I have a few ideas about why this is being done.

1. Simple, Resources.

They have used up everything in their realm, and are now taking ours.

2. A Natural Phenomenon.

Perhaps there is nothing intelligent doing this, maybe it is just an anomaly of the very existence of everything.

3. Creation.

Maybe this is how universes are created? Everything just slowly moves from one realm to the other.

Lastly.

4. Natural Selection.

If we think of the universe as an entity. A living organism of sorts. We have to first understand how something stays "alive".

Simply, consumption.

Every living thing must consume something to continue living. It's the way of the world (and possibly everything else)

Timeline of the Universe (credit NASA WMAP)

Even non living things need to consume to appear alive. Prime example, Fire. Fire must consume oxygen in order to "live on" and burn. Take away the oxygen, you "kill" the fire.

So, how does this relate. Well, there is a finite amount of material in the universe. Eventually this limit will be reached, now let's say this other universe has been around far, far longer than our own.

Then it would be safe to say, it has reached this limit. It would also be safe to say, that it is in a "dying" stage, that is, no more consumption, nothing. Just a slow, prolonged, death.

Now, these beings do not want their home to die, that will, essentially, be the end of them swell.

So what do they do?

They do what we would. They (and I will get to this in a moment) use their advanced technology to create the Dark Flow. Sucking out our resources, in order to prolong the survival of their own universe, or realm.

How do they do it?

Well, Nobody on this Earth will know this, but I have a few ideas.

People were afraid of the very real possibility of creating a miniature black hole at CERN's Large Hadron Collider (LHC). So if, we, humans, have become so advanced that we have (not saying we can) the possibility of creating a black hole, then think about a civilization far ahead of our own.

They may have the technology to create black holes. Not just any black holes though, the kind that only consumes matter from our universe, and spits it out on the other side.

Hell, that might even be the cause of regular Black Holes.

22163.jpg
Black Hole
So the Dark Flow, maybe this flow, is a result of a massive massive insanely massive undetectable Black Hole. Just raging and consuming everything in its wake, and forcing entire clusters of Galaxies towards it.

It could be the result of all their technological advances, perhaps it is not even a single species. Maybe it is the result of their entire universe, a collaboration, coming up with the best technology possible to create and sustain this Black Hole.

It sounds like fiction I know, but you have to question things to get anywhere. For the majority of civilization people thought the Earth was flat, and sat atop a giant tortoise, which in turn sat atop a giant tortoise and so on all the way to the bottom, of what? I don't know. They were flawed. Anyone with or close to the correct theory though, was shunned and/or killed. So, just question things people.

I understand that it sounds crazy, but just give it some thought. Nobody knows if what I said is true or untrue because we can't know. So if some how we figure this whole thing out, and what I said turns out to be true, then maybe we should all start to be worried because, on the universal scale, this dark flow is dangerously close to our galaxy and at the moving rate of millions of kilometres per hour, it is only a matter of time before they reach us.

Here are two of the links I have based my post on:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_flow

http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2008/11/081105-dark-flow.html

Next week is a post on memory, and how we are all being deceived by not only others, but as well as ourselves! Stay tuned.

Song of the Week #2: Linkin Park - Blackout

By:
Dillon Wheeler

This is a song from Linkin Park's new album, A Thousand Suns. I acquired the album about two months ago, around when it was released and I have to say, at first I didn't really like their new music, but then I listened to it again with an open mind, and wow a whole lot has changed. I really like everything from their album now. All of their music from it is experimental and that is what makes it great, but out of all of those, I like this individual song the best.

The first part is good, transition is odd, latter part the greatest.
